Delta state donates patrol vehicles to police

  pmnews Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta on Wednesday donated 60 patrol vehicles and communication gadgets to the state Police Command in Asaba.
He said at the occasion that the State Government from 2007 to date had donated 110 pick-up vans and some communication gadgets to the police.

“The issue of security is key and we are taking it seriously because without security you cannot develop the human capital or think of developing any other infrastructure. So we are doing everything possible to support the police and from 2007 till now, I think we have been able to give to the police about 110 pick-ups, two Armoured Personnel Carriers and some communication equipment”.
He called on the police to check the surge of criminals from neighbouring states, adding that he was working with governors of such states to find solutions to the problems.
He also called on the politicians not to politicise criminality in the state.
“We should all put our heads together to map out strategies to tackle the issues of criminality in the state. And I appeal to the general public to offer information to the police to enable them to serve us. ’’
Receiving the vehicles, the acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, assured the people of adequate security.
He commended the governor for the gesture and warned the command not to be reckless in using the vehicles.
“Let me use this opportunity to thank the state governor for this great gesture, you have done it before and you are doing it again. I want to use this opportunity to call on other state governors to emulate this wonderful gesture and good example of leadership.”
He urged the command not to molest or use the vehicles to inflict pains on the people of the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba, pledged to use the vehicles to reduce crime rate.
