No fewer than 28 of our students would write UTME - Ikoyi Prisons School

Ikoyi Prisons School, on Monday reported that no fewer than 28 of its students would write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), 2015, which commences on March 10.

Mr Ayodele Obarewo, the School’s Principal, said, in Lagos that the inmates were adequately prepared for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)-organised examination.

Obarewo said more inmates had shown interest in furthering their education, having gone through several reform programmes being offered in the facility.

The principal said the rise in the number of students registered for this year’s examination was encouraging.

Japan sets up 'ninja council' to boost tourism

BBC- A "ninja council" has been set up by mayors and governors from around the country, who ditched their office wear in favour of ninja gear to launch the new initiative, the Japan Times reports. Officials are hoping that global interest in the mysterious figures will encourage people to visit Japan. It's a "subject that always comes up whenever we go abroad to promote tourism," says Hiroshi Mizohata, former head Japan's Tourism Agency. The council wants local authorities and tourism bodies to put the ninja front and centre - a position the stealth assassins historically tried to avoid, the report points out. It will also be holding ninja-related events.

APC, Buhari should withdraw from presidential race - Fayose Speaks

"Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Major General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) no longer have moral rights to participate in the March 28 presidential election having lied to Nigerians on several occasions. According to a press statement issued in Ado-Ekiti by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor noted with dismay the contemptuous manner in which the APC and Buhari hold Nigeria and its people.

The governor, who vowed that Nigeria will never be ruled by deceit, said; "In saner climes, you can't lie and be discovered to have lied repeatedly as done by the APC and still want to stand for elections." He said; "The new deceit from the APC is to use a photoshoped picture of Buhari for posters in Lagos, making him look like a 50 year old man, whereas he is as old as my mother and cannot survive the rigours of office even as a governor not to talk of President of Nigeria."

Renowned SA Rapper Flabba stabbed to death this morning, girlfriend Detained

Popular South African rapper & member of rap group Skwatta Kamp, Nkululeko Habedi aka Flabba (above) has died after he was stabbed to death in Alexandra, Johannesburg this morning March 9th.

According to the spokesperson of the South African police, his girlfriend has been arrested in connection with his death. Reason for his stabbing is not yet known but investigations into the matter is proceeding.

Fire breaks out in studio area of AIT in Lagos

Report has it that fire broke out this morning in the studio area at the Africa Independent Television, AIT, in Alagbado, Lagos. The cause of fire is not yet known but it has been put out by the fire service and members of staff of the TV station. Damage to the property is currently being assessed. No casualties or injuries recorded. Please whoever has an update, please send to my e-mail.

Woman sets fire to $30,000 cash hidden in the family stove

A Chinese woman named Hao Bin, 35, accidentally set fire to £20,000 cash that was hidden in the family cooking stove. The money, which was meant for her husband's staff salary, was hidden in the wood-burning stove by the woman herself but forgot she'd put it there when she went there to make a pot of tea. 

Her husband had given her the money for safe keeping the night before, but the next morning, Mrs Bin threw a lighted march on the stove to boil water for tea. The burnt money pictured above

Nigeria Private Jet owners get 90 days ultimatum from FG

The Federal Ministry of Aviation has issued a 90 day ultimatum to private jet owners to streamline their operations with civil aviation regulations. This ultimatum was given yesterday Sunday March 8th at the conclusion of a meeting between the officials of the Ministry of Aviation and stakeholders in the General Aviation sector which includes all the owners and operators of private jets. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation, Alhaji Mohammed Abass, gave the ultimatum after the meeting at Abuja.

As part of the unanimous decision at the meeting, the blanket ban on operators of foreign registered privately operated aircraft in the country has been lifted with conditions attached.

In a statement issued by the NCAA’s spokesman Mr Fan Ndubuoke, the authority said;

Senior pastor of House on the Rock church Pastor Paul Adefarasin, who says he's non-partisan, told his congregation in church yesterday that he won't be voting in this year's general elections. He said he's decided not to vote because this year's election is like a do-or-die affair for some people. He said he belongs to an association in the US that feel that the election campaigns have so far been violent. He went further to call for a peaceful 2015 election. To me, I think he is just playing safe... He does not want to create enemies just because of some post in government. Wiseman!!!

INEC Card Reader is a fraud, it will mar March 28 polls - Fayose Speaks

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described the card reader machines the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) intends to use to accredit voters during the March 28 and April 14 elections as a fraud capable of scuttling the elections. 

The governor, who expressed doubt over the forthrightness of the INEC chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega in handling the elections said; "Unless INEC has an agenda that is different from conduct of free, fair and credible elections, use of the card readers should be suspended for future elections so as to enable proper test running of the technology."
