Diesel Fumes Cause Cancer - World Health Organisation

Diesel engine fumes can cause lung cancer and belong in the same potentially deadly category as asbestos, arsenic and mustard gas, World Health Organisation (WHO) experts said on Tuesday.
In an announcement that caused concern in the auto industry, the France-based International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), part of the WHO, reclassified diesel exhausts from its group 2A of probable carcinogens to its group 1 of substances that have definite links to cancer.
The experts, who said their decision was unanimous and based on “compelling” scientific evidence, urged people worldwide to reduce their exposure to diesel fumes as much as possible.
“The working group found that diesel exhaust is a cause of lung cancer and also noted a positive association with an increased risk of bladder cancer,” IARC said in a statement.
The decision was the result of a week-long meeting of independent experts who assessed the latest scientific evidence on the cancer-causing potential of diesel and gasoline exhausts.
It puts diesel exhaust fumes in the same risk category as a number of other noxious substances including asbestos, arsenic, mustard gas, alcohol and tobacco.
Christopher Portier, chairman of the IARC working group, said the group’s conclusion “was unanimous, that diesel engine exhaust causes lung cancer in humans”.
“Given the additional health impacts from diesel particulates, exposure to this mixture of chemicals should be reduced worldwide,” he said in a statement.

Jonathan hails General Abubakar at 70

Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan has felicitated with former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
In a congratulatory message, Jonathan prayed God to continue to grant Abubakar good health and many more years of fruitful service to the country.
“On the occasion of your landmark 70th birthday anniversary, I write on behalf of my family, the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and on my own behalf, to extend warm felicitations to you.
“There is no doubt whatsoever that over the past 70 years, you have lived a richly productive and fulfilled life,’’ he said.
The president said that Abubakar’s uncommon diligence, gallantry, loyalty, patriotism, and enduring sense of committed service saw him rise to the pinnacle of his chosen military career.
He said the same qualities also saw “the onerous duty of the political leadership of our nation thrust upon your shoulders at a critical period in Nigeria’s developmental history’’.
The President hailed Abubakar’s courage in the delivery of the country’s transition to democratic governance in May 1999 and for giving himself to the service of the nation and conflict resolution across the African continent.
Abubakar, a former chief of defence staff, had succeeded Nigeria’s tyrannical ruler, Sani Abacha in June 1998. And he promptly initiated a process to return Nigeria to democratic rule in May 1999.

Oprah Winfrey interviews the Kardashians? Wow!

This is truly Oprah's Next Chapter. I'm almost sure she wouldn't have invited the Kardashians to The Oprah Winfrey Show...just like 50 cent. Below is what Kim K wrote on her website this morning...
This is beyond amazing! We are so excited to reveal that the entire family is going to be on Oprah’s Next Chapter on the Oprah Winfrey Network this Sunday, June 17, at 8/7c.
I’ve always looked up to Oprah Winfrey as a strong, smart business women and admire all of the incredible work she does for charity, so to actually be on her show with my family is just surreal.
wow!

He's Gone Finally

it is quite unfortunate that my uncle at the end of the day eventually kicked the bucket,
after coming out of the coma that lasted one whole week.
But i give thanks to Almighty God who proved himself in our lives all...
May the Good Lord grant his wife especially and us all
the fortitude to bear the untimely loss. Amen

And i whole heartedly pray that God will heal anyone in that
condition through this medium...Amen

My Uncle's death is an eye opener. he lived his life carelessly if i may say
he didn't really know Christ Jesus and he swept his time away boozing in deadly alcohol
reflect on your life and know where you're headed....
RIP uncle!
