Alamieyeseigha Pardon: Church, Activists Drag Jonathan To UN

 

World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) and Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) have dragged the Federal Government to the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR) expressing “serious concerns about the state pardon granted former Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha by President Goodluck Jonathan.”
The groups said they “consider this to be entirely inconsistent with the country’s international human rights and anticorruption commitments, and the promises made by the government of Nigeria to the United Nations during its Universal Periodic Review in 2009.”
The complaint was submitted to the UN as part of an update to the submission made by the groups to the UPR this month.

Nelson Mandela back in hospital with lung infection

A statement from the South African presidency said Mr Mandela, 94, had been admitted just before midnight.
Mr Mandela spent 18 days in hospital in December undergoing treatment for a lung infection and gallstones.

He is widely regarded as the father of the nation for leading the struggle against apartheid.
Mr Mandela served as South Africa's first black president from 1994 to 1999. However, his health has caused concern for some time.

A presidential spokesman told the BBC that Mr Mandela was conscious and was receiving the best possible medical treatment.

"I think we need to be clear that the doctors are attending to Madiba [Mr Mandela] on a continuous basis," spokesman Mac Maharaj said.

"They prefer to act on the side of caution, and the moment they felt there was a recurrence of the lung infection, they felt that it warranted immediate hospitalisation given his age and given his history."

ON Friday 8th March 2013 Nigeria Racing Eagle officially unveiled its drivers at the impressive London’s west-end venue VANILLA. The drivers who would be competing alongside other teams at the British GT Series for the 2013 season are ex Formula One Red Bull test driver Adrian Zaugg and Paris based Christian Ebong. The other drivers unveiled on the day are Sam Collins, Gugu Zulu and the junior drivers, Nathan Wright and Ovie Iroro. The event was attended by people from the Motorsport circle and fans

There was a short presentation from the Team Principal Ribi Adeshokan, who emphasised on the need for Africa to be represented in motorsport, the TV hosting rights for the series to be shown all across Africa and the sponsorship opportunities for businesses based in Africa and those internationally.

The Nigeria version of “An Evening with Racing Eagle Nigeria” Event is scheduled to hold in Lagos and Abuja in April 2013.

JTF Conducts House To House Search In Kano

There was serious confusion in the Eastern Bye Pass area of Kano early on Monday when security agents under the Joint Task force, JTF, arrived the area to conduct a house-to-house search.
A resident of the area, said the security agents were conducting the search ostensibly to fish out members of the Boko Haram sect.
“They have been here since morning, searching for insurgents and weapons,” he said.
He added that the agents may have a point in conducting the search there because it has lately became notorious for incessant attacks.
A security source said that the security agents are convinced that most of the insurgents operating in Kano reside around the area.
